Narrative

The Last Baton

Jade waited for the baton with her toes behind the line. Her team was not first, but her friends were shouting as if the race belonged to them. When the baton touched her palm, she ran smoothly, listening for the rhythm of her breath. At the finish line, she grinned because nobody had dropped it.

Procedure

Relay Tips

Hold the baton near one end so the next runner has space to grip it. Call the runner's name before passing. Keep moving in the same direction after the handover so the lane stays clear. Practise slowly before trying full speed.
