Level 10 Mathematics

Level 10 consolidates algebraic and geometric skills in preparation for senior mathematics. Students extend trigonometry, work with quadratic functions and data sets involving bivariate relationships, and build a foundation in statistical analysis.

Number and Algebra

  • Manipulate algebraic expressions involving surds and simple rational expressions
  • Solve quadratic equations by factorising, using the quadratic formula and completing the square
  • Graph parabolas, exponential and circle relations and describe their key features
  • Solve linear and simple non-linear simultaneous equations
  • Apply exponential growth and decay to real-world contexts such as compound interest
  • Use function notation and identify inverse relationships

Measurement and Geometry

  • Solve right-angled trigonometry problems in two and three dimensions
  • Use bearings, angles of elevation and depression to solve applied problems
  • Calculate the surface area and volume of spheres, cones and pyramids
  • Prove geometric results about congruent and similar triangles using formal reasoning
  • Use coordinate geometry to prove geometric properties on the Cartesian plane

Statistics and Probability

  • Investigate bivariate numerical data using scatter plots and lines of best fit
  • Compare data sets using parallel box plots and back-to-back stem-and-leaf plots
  • Calculate standard measures such as interquartile range
  • Use conditional probability and Venn diagrams for compound events
  • Interpret and critically evaluate statistical reports found in the media
