Free Maths Practice for Kids: One Clear Example
30 October 2026 · Pi Leo Academy
You do not need to organise a whole revision programme before your child can begin. Start with one question they can discuss. A free sample gives you a practical way to see whether the explanations and question style suit them.

Choose a question you can explore together
Pi Leo Academy’s free fractions and decimals sample is one starting point. Ask your child to try a question before opening its explanation. Give them paper to draw on, and ask, “What does each number mean?” The goal for this first visit is to understand one idea and see how the resource works.
A clear example: why is one half the same as two quarters?
Draw two rectangles of the same size. Divide the first into two equal parts and shade one part. Divide the second into four equal parts and shade two. Both pictures cover the same amount of the same-sized whole.
1/2 = 2/4. The pieces in the second picture are smaller, so you need twice as many. In the fraction, multiplying both the numerator and denominator by 2 keeps the value unchanged: (1 × 2)/(2 × 2) = 2/4.
A useful check: draw equal-sized wholes. Half of a large pizza and half of a small pizza are both one half of their own pizza, but they are different physical amounts.
Try, explain, then choose
- Ask: which is equal to 1/2 — 2/3 or 3/6?
- Draw six equal parts and shade three.
- Check the answer: 3/6, because three of six equal parts make half the whole.
If your child can explain the picture, try another equivalent fraction. If equal parts are still confusing, stay with paper shapes before adding harder numbers. You have found a useful next step either way.
