Level 3 Mathematics
Level 3 is a year of growing fluency. Students practise times tables, work with fractions and money, measure with standard tools and start to read analog time to the minute. This is also a NAPLAN year.
Number and Algebra
- Read, write and order numbers up to tens of thousands
- Use place value to round numbers and check whether answers are reasonable
- Recall multiplication facts for the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables
- Divide numbers using the inverse of multiplication and interpret remainders
- Model and name halves, quarters, thirds, fifths and eighths
- Count and calculate with Australian coins and notes
- Describe number patterns and missing terms using the four operations
Measurement and Geometry
- Classify 2D shapes and 3D objects by features like symmetry and parallel sides
- Measure length, mass, capacity and temperature using standard units and tools
- Find the perimeter of shapes by adding side lengths
- Tell time to the minute on analog and digital clocks
- Interpret grid references on maps and give directions
- Recognise angles as a measure of turn and identify right angles
Statistics and Probability
- Collect data through simple surveys and experiments
- Display data using column graphs, picture graphs and tables
- Interpret graphs to answer questions and compare categories
- Talk about the chance of everyday events using words like certain, equal chance and impossible
